I finished day 2 of week 2 of the Couch to 5K program last night. I felt pretty strong. This time, I didn’t accidentally cut the program 5 minutes short. I did it as prescribed. Now the bike ride to and from the track is truly bonus time.
I peeked ahead and see that the pace of an upcoming week is “1/4 mile or 2 minutes” for one of the jogging intervals.
That has me psyched since I estimate I made it about 1/5 of a mile each during the 90 second jogging splits. That means I’m running at a slightly faster pace (6%) than what’s expected of the program–and it’s not killing me. I actually think I run a lot more efficiently (better form) when I run faster than I do when I run slower. So there is a “diminishing return” in slowing down the pace. For me anyway.
Also, with the app, my music, and general distraction from others using the track, I lost track of count on how many runs I did. I had completed 5, but thought only 4 when the last run came along. I was surprised by the closing bell on the app. I had enough to go one more, but figured the bike ride back home is enough of an extension/cool down.
My eating has been stellar, except for today’s lunch, which could not have been worse. Oh well. One day out of 3 weeks isn’t bad. I won’t beat myself up over it.
